Tatu City is among 9 African SEZs selected by UNCTAD as ESG model zones, with 50 zones selected globally. Tatu City has been the SEZ industry champion for global best practices in Kenya. Konza Technopolis was also among the nine zones. The SEZ program in Kenya has gained considerable global interest, even in its current early stages.
The zones are competitively selected for their efforts towards commitment to sustainable development, promotion of SDG-focused investments, adherence to social, environmental, and governance standards, and the presence of linkages and spillovers. The 9 African SEZs were given special recognition during the Africa Economic Zones Organization gala dinner in Morocco.
